Lydia Atkinson

Returning to my practice after a 2021 hiatus whilst becoming a mother, I’m currently an MA student in Art and Social Practice, based in Wirksworth. My current focus is a series of socially engaged portraits exploring the transformative journey of becoming a mother, aiming to empower fellow mothers and make sense of my experience through creative engagement and dialogue. Previously I have worked as an arts facilitator in health and care settings. Noteworthy commissions include steel plate drawings for Beeston’s ‘All Stars’ trail for Broxtowe Borough Council in 2021. I have previously exhibited at Belper Arts Trail, Air Arts’ Illuminate and Unity exhibitions, and Derby Quad’s Self-portrait exhibition. Throughout my work, my expressive paintings are about connecting and empowering, and telling real people’s stories.
