Ruth Gray
Ruth’s subjects reflect the post-industrial landscape that she has grown up with in the East Midlands. She is fascinated with buildings that were once thriving manufacturing hubs shops, or houses that have decades of lived history. To her a row of terrace houses has as much to say as a stately home. When she paints buildings, she does so with respect to those that built and those that lived and worked within them, each one she believes has a story to tell. When she paints the landscape, she begins by imagining how geology has formed it over time and how humans may have manipulated it to suit their needs. Using acrylic paint she hopes to express layers of history and heritage within her art.
