Steph Jansen

My felt landscapes are made with dynamic, painterly layers of richly coloured and textured fibres and threads. They’re inspired by my fascination with tucked away, ancient paths and tracks in the Derbyshire landscape, and communicate some of the thoughts I have when I’m out walking or sketching. My work sings with enjoyment of fresh air and room to breathe, and the great comfort of a connection to the natural world, the entangled roots and tree cover. I find felt to be a wonderfully tactile and versatile medium, responding to light conditions, and bringing warmth and depth to my visual ideas.
